12 Feb An Interview with Samantha Nutter of Accountable Aging Care Management
This year’s winner of Best Social Worker 2019 is our very own Samantha Nutter for the Reader’s Choice Awards for Senior Resource Guide. This is the first time Samantha has received this award from the Senior Resource Guide.
How long have you been with our company?
2 years (and 2 months)
How does it feel to have won the Senior Resource Guide award for Best Care Manager for San Antonio?
I’m so grateful I really don’t have words.
What made you want to become a social worker/work in care management?
I always knew I wanted to be a social worker because I love helping people and giving back has always been something that has been instilled in me. Throughout college, I lived with my grandparents and worked in an assisted living facility as a CNA. Coming home each night I would share my funny stories with my grandparents, and they would tell me “I think you could do this forever” and they were right, being a social worker for the elderly population is exactly what I was always meant to do.
What is the thing you love most about the job you do?
I love that every day brings a new challenge and another opportunity to think outside the box to make something possible for a client. I love hearing each client’s unique story and how I can empower them to be the best versions of themselves despite the challenges they may face.
What advice would you give to someone dealing with a difficult case?
Taking on a difficult case can sometimes be very taxing for both you and the client. If you are dealing with a situation like this, the best thing you can do is continue to keep the client at the forefront and think “what’s best for my client” when faced with each decision or question. Empower your clients to make the best possible choice for themselves, even if it’s something that you wouldn’t necessarily choose for them.
What would be your advice to those pursuing this career?
Do it! This is the most rewarding, sometimes sad, completely overwhelming, most wonderful adventure you will have in a career.
